While there are literally hundreds of software solutions that are being used for online teaching programs the one that I used while enrolled at Ashford University and the one that I think is by far the industry leader is Blackboard available from over 5000 institutions is a free Itunes download.

According to the Blackboard blog making this classroom environment available on the iPhone means that students have yet another option for students to access the classroom when a computer is not available.  For those that work and go to school part time this means more options.  Additionally, it means that it is possible for an individual to engage in class participation anywhere that cell phone reception is available.

Benefits to the application include:

• Staying up to date on new posts and assignments
• Checking grades
• Linking to new content and forum post via the Safari browser.

The Blackboard free Itunes download is compatible with the iPhone and the iPod Touch.
